Study Guide Germany 1919 – 1945.

We have covered Hitler’s biography until 1929 but you haven’t looked on what happened with the Weimar Republic.

When you study, keep focus on the main questions! Rise and Rule of Single Party State!!!! This and nothing else is the Topic we study!!!

In Traynor:

This book should be used as an exercise book on this chapter, you should be able to solve any of these tasks for the exam. If you find something in this book that is unclear, consult Morris, me or ask for additional material.

Page 174 – 175 contains a good summary of political events surrounding the beginning of the Weimar Republic. This will give you the background to why the Beer Hall putsch was considered such a small deal.

Page 178 – 179 focuses on the Years of Stability until 1929. This is important, especially in the perspective “What could have happened otherwise?” was there an alternative to Hitler and the Nazis?

Pages 180 – 202 focuses on what happened after 1929. On these pages you can read about how Hitler managed to become elected as Kansler of Germany, or to be closer to the truth managed to convince the president to appoint him.

In Morris:

Page 294 – 295, the map on top of p 294 is something you should know in your sleep besides that the part on Weimar constitution gives some understanding in how Hitler would be appointed Kansler.

Pages 298 – 302 answers the question “How successful was the Weimar Republic in stabilizing the economy and restoring Germany’s reputation on the international stage?”. This chapter is important in understanding why the collapse of the Weimar republic opened up for radicalism.

Page 302 – 304 covers how Hitler was appointed Kansler.

Page 306 – 325 deals with the typical ideology of Nazism and how they consolidated their power, this is very important.
