Revision IB
We agreed
on focusing on subjects from paper 1 and paper 2. As we could see paper 3
questions will naturally fit in here.
We didn’t
agree on how to do this.
This is my
idea:

Any other questions. |
Important
points:
q We will have to focus on the different
papers in order to do this efficient. That means that I will point out typical
questions and try to coach as good as possible for the different papers, but I
won’t give you all the facts ones more.
q Decide ahead which questions you
want to answer and study for those.
q I have made the planning in order to
fit the majority, if you choose other subject and questions to answer, you are
more than welcome, but you do at your own risk.
q I will NOT be able to cover
everything, passing the revision will NOT be enough.
q You have to study parallel with the
revision lessons.
And this is
the idea behind the planning:
For Paper
1:
Most of you
are going to do Stalin 1924 to 1941.
You have to
know:
q Struggle for leadership.
q Collectivization and agricultural
policies.
q Five Year Plans, industrialization
and rearmament.
q Nature of the Soviet State,
constitution, extent of Stalin’s power, cult of personality.
q Purges, impact on society.
q Foreign relations, USSR and Nazi
Germany, Nazi / Soviet Pact.
As you
could see below all of this fits in the area covered by Topic 3 in Paper 2.
Hence we will start by focusing on Russia paper 2.
For Paper
2:
Questions
will be asked on one of these dictators:
q Mao
q Fidel Castro
q Hitler
q Mussolini
q Lenin
q Stalin
You have to
have dictators from two different regions.
These
dictators should be studied like this:
q Origins of the S-P State.
o Conditions leading to
o Emergence of leader, aims, ideology,
support.
q Establishing of S-P State.
o Methods
o Form of government, ideology
o Totalitarianism treatment of
opposition
q Rule of S-P State.
o Political, economic and social
policies.
o Role of education, the arts, the
media, propaganda.
o Status of women.
o Treatment of minorities.
q Regional and global impact.
o Foreign policies as means of
maintaining the regime.
o Impact of regime outside the state.
o As a factor in the cold war.
We will
focus on Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini in the revision. When we do
Stalin I will make references to Mao. IF I FAIL TO DO SO, MAKE SURE YOU DO ON
YOUR OWN/ REMIND ME.
This is why
we will do Hitler and Mussolini after Stalin.
As we could
see this covered well the following areas in paper 3:
q Tsarist Russia to Communist USSR
q The causes and effects of First
World War.
q The Interwar Years.
q Totalitarian Europe 1922 to 1953.
In order to
be able to manage the exams we will also need the Cold War:
For Paper
One:
The Cold
War 1960 to 1979:
q
Peaceful
coexistance, challenges and the dentente
q
Nuclear
disarmament and arms control
q
Devlopment
in Latin America, especially Cuba
q
The
Vietnam War.
q
Development
in Germany and the eastern bloc.
q
Sino-Soviet
relations.
I
would recommend you to pick Stalin for paper 1.
For Paper
2:
Cold War
1945 to 1995.
q Origins of rivalry
q Nature of the CW
q Development
o Europe
o US policy of containment
o Spread of war worldwide
o Related wars and non-alignment
o Brinkmanship
o Social, economic and gender issues.
q End of Cold War.
This is
what we have spent the autumn doing, very little revision on this area.
For Paper 3
this will enable you to answer these areas:
q USSR 1941 to 1995
q Post-war western Europe to 1995
q Eastern and central Europe excl USSR
1919 to 1995.
Traps to
look out for (faults that I haven’t been able to avoid in the planning of this
revision)
q Regions on paper 2! Mao as
comparison.
q Cold War; Middle east, non-alignment.
q Paper 3: pick 4 topics and make sure
you study everything from the syllabus.
q Trust yourself, not me! It is your
exams!!!
