Planning
the entire course.
What will
the course contain?
For your
Diploma you will need to do 3 (Higher level) or 2 (Standard Level) history
papers on your final exam. Believe it or not but the next two years are going
to be spent trying to teach you how to gain the best possible mark on these
papers.
You will
also need to do an Internal Assesment, an historical investigation.
Paper One: Any one of the SUBSCRIBED SUBJECTS, these are 1) USSR & Stalin 1924-1941, 2) China 1946-1964 or 3) Cold War 60 –79.
The
questions are source-based. Compare and contrast etc..
Paper Two: Two out of six areas concerning 20th
Century History. We will do topic
3 Rise and rule of single party states and 5 Cold War. The reason
for this is that they are easiest, the relate very good to paper one and we
have good resources covering these topics at the school. These topics should
try to cover two regions.
Paper Three: Only Higher Level Students should do this. We
will do region Europe and Russia 1800 –
1995. Here we are recommended to pick 7 – 9 units out of the 21
available units.
Historical Investigation:
Should
be done by both SL and HL students.
As you can
see this is a lot, and the best and recommended way of doing this is to try to
relate all the papers to each other. Students on the higher level will get a
deeper knowledge on all the papers if we do it this way.
