Group assignment Stalinism.

Each group should read one chapter from Phillips. Pick one of these:

1. How did Stalin exercise political control?
2. The role of Stalin – did Stalin preserve or destroy Bolshevism?
3. How successful was Stalin’s attempt to modernize the USSR?
4. Propaganda and the cult of personality – how popular was Stalin?

• In most of the chapters you will be presented with different historians points of view.
• Explain the theories to your classmates. You should make an oral presentation explaining the chapter for your classmates. Make sure that you actually answer the question asked in the title.
• Make handouts or other material that your classmates will need for studying your section.
• Maximum is two pages from each group.

You may of course use other material but I don’t think that’s necessary.
